Other summer highlights

Since when did we have an apple tree in our yard? New discovery this summer, but can't really reach the apples. Can you see them? No wonder the deer like our yard, free apples!

Daddy was cold

One evening, Jimmy told Sophie he was cold. Little Sophie was helpful and got her daddy 3 blankets, and covered dad up. Cute! Aww!

Lets go back to July

July was filled with many super activities! Lets see what pictures I have to tell our story of the summer!

Jimmy has been called to the scouts and is over the varsity scouts, 16-17 year olds. He planned & organized their High Adventure campout. Grocery shopping for 8 boys & 2 leaders for 4 days. Nice! The boys helped with the meal planning and shopping. 

 

 They stayed in Manti. Boys in the tent, leaders in the trailer.

 Service project at Palaside State Park.

 Golfing and a tour at the Gunnison State Prison. The prison tour was the highlight of the trip. The leaders and boys were able to interview to 3 death row inmates. It made an impact on the boys and leaders. The choices they make now make a difference as to who they will turn out to be in the future.

 At some point, Jimmy got into some poison ivy during this campout. Luckily he was the only one to get into it, but a prescrpition of steriods cleared it up. It was a good High Adventure. Jimmy learned some things about 'being-in-charge', but importantly the boys had a good time (and no one made the news for injuries, or getting lost)!

One day we took a field trip to the Gallivan Center for a Radio Disney day. We got their a little late, but still enjoyed walking around the free things they had.

 BUT-most IMPORTANTLY-I got a decent picture of my kiddos together! Yes!

Bountiful Handcart Days Parade 2012

Its my MOST favorite time of year.....ugggghhhh. Not really! It begins with random cars, people putting stuff on private property, rude people, good friends and neighbors visiting, Bountiful City Police Department, girls sleeping outside, BBQ, treats, STRESS, lack of sleep, SOOOO many things!

The highlight of the parade-Sons of Heleman.

This year’s parade will include an entry that will happen only one time and in only one parade. Complementing this year’s theme, They Did Not Doubt, young men from all over the area will come together dressed as warriors. They will be led by President Cory Hanks, president of the Bountiful South Stake, who will be dressed as Helaman.


For many years President Hanks has been involved with youth groups, dressing as Helaman, and telling the story of the 2000 stripling warriors. Years ago he thought about a parade entry that would include 2000 young men all marching in unison, costumed as warriors, but the time was never right. Finally, in 2012, it has all come together.

Young men from all over the valley will be involved in the march. It will be inspiring to see. They will all be costumed and will each have a wooden staff-like spear. The staffs will each have a nail in the bottom. Every fourth step, the young men will strike the staff on the pavement which will make a thunderous sound unlike any heard before in a parade. They will all be wearing wrist bands that proclaim the message, “They Did Not Doubt!”

This parade entry drew much more interest in the parade this year and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Young men-LDS or not, leaders, and Full-time missionaries were part of a crew of 2,00+ young men reinacting the story from the Book of Mormon. LOTS of young men we personally knew were WARRIORS.  Yet-it was hard to see them all as they walked past us. It was special to me because it made a scripture story come to life. My young kids were excited to see these warriors come past our HOUSE! We sang about the story, we learned of the story, we SAW the story come to life. After the parade completed, my kids enjoyed seeing WARRIORS walk past our house (as they were going home or just back to their car or family). It was someone they could look up to, even if they were a stranger to us. These young men were examples of faith to us!

Catch-up: Mud Run

A friend of ours invited Jimmy or I to join their team for a Mud Run located in Woods Cross---close+free=YES! I just ran the River Rail Relay, so it was Jimmy's turn. Jimmy joined the Graphic Auto groups team, and that meant the kids got to run it too. Ashley was the only brave one to do it, because she had one of her best friends to do it with her! Sweet!

Yes, I decorated Jimmy's shirt for him-He did not write that on there! Silly me! The run was about 2 miles in a dirt field, then the last mile or so was the mud obstacle course.

 The team together. This mud run benefits the Utah chapter of the JDRF. Thanks Mike for inviting us!

 They both had a good time. It was tough, as both of them would report. It was scary for Ashley to try something new, and unfamiliar without mom or dad there, but she fell in LOVE with it and was SO happy to do this run! She wants to do another one!
