My Lucky Run

One July morning, I went out for a run. Most mornings, I don't plan my route, I just run. A Wednesday morning in July, I ended my run passing the junior high that is up the street from my house.

As I am approaching the junior high, I notice some travel busses. There was like 4-5 of them. Then I see a semi truck & trailer.

Wait-this is a junior high and its the middle of the summer. These are not for junior high kids. I never got a nice bus for any traveling I did in junior high. hmmm....what is it?

OH-Its Drum & Bugle Corp season! A drum & bugle corp is stopping at Millcreek Junior high for a practice~AHH! (MUCH MUCH excitement!)

There is junior high summer band (march in local parades), high school marching band* (parades, football games and field show competition), college marching band* (football games include a pre-half-post game entertainment and traveling to bowl games or an away football game), THEN there is Drum Corps International (the most professional you can get for marching band) see http://www.dci.org/

As part of a drum corp, you audition, and if selected, you commit your summer to learning a field show, and traveling the country over the summer trying to be the best drum corp and win the competition. You live on a tour bus all night, sleep in gym floors, travel, practice, perform, eat, and sleep. It was SO exciting for me to see this! They were SO close to my house!

So kids-come on-THIS is what we are doing today!!!

The Blue Knights were in Bountiful!

There is the drum line: (practicing marching basics here)

The Pit (other percussion instruments)

Brass (Trumpets, Mellophones, Baritones, and Sousaphones)
We went up to the school two times, so I wouldn't bore the kids out TOO much. I would have loved being there ALL DAY LONG! ha! yeah right!

They feed the athletes/musicians at the school. Its like a little town on wheels. They had posted a daily schedule on the food truck. I loved this note on the food truck.

It was SO fun to see the full run-through the second time we went up to the school. I LOVED it! I only dreamt about doing something like this! It was fun to share this with my kids.
The Blue Knights were competing at the University of Utah that evening. I was to cheap to buy tickets and go, but this little glimpse of entertainment was AWESOME!

And I was so LUCKY to run past the school on my run that morning!

July 4th Parade

On July 4th, we joined my parents in Kaysville for the parade there. Kids 1-3 went with Jimmy's parents on a day trip to Camp Piuta in the Uinta mountains. So we enjoyed having Sophie only with us.
(GOOD THING-cause this parade was NOT that fun.....That is coming from my mouth-a person that LOVES parades, but look at the people ALL around in the pictures. People who had spots at the street were STANDING up the whole time and moving further and further into the street. Crowd control was a joke! It was ridiculous and not safe! We were sitting far back & up on a hill, and only saw part of the parade. Really disappointing!) LOOK at that view behind Sophie-really! What fun is a parade that looks like this??

After the parade.

My cute cousin Charlotte & I. She is a senior at Davis High and in the BAND-TOTALLY LOVE THIS GIRL!

July 2nd fireworks

I joined Mike & Michelle to watch the fireworks at Eaglewood Golf Course. They had a spot they always parked, and walked to the golf course to watch the fireworks. I LOVE fireworks! Being up there was SO much fun! I just love M&M kids, and M&M are always great to be around! Thanks! Gotta have glow sticks.

Ashley & her BFF-Adrena

Look-I was there!

We had a GREAT spot. The fireworks were just above our heads! Awesome!
