Runnin' Wild

A rubber chicken?
During the Rivalry Relay, Regena brought her rubber chicken from home. During one of the runs, we pulled the rubber chicken out to help cheer for our runner.
Why did the chicken cross the road?
That's how it began!
I helped the rubber chicken cross the road, and we began to play with it.
It was silly at the time, and the 9 hours we spent with entertaining the rubber chicken were memorable.
Runnin Wild, the rubber chicken, brought many smiles to runners & participants. Runnin Wild enjoyed the adventures and silly poses we found for him. It was 'an inside joke' that we wanted to share with others.
He has his own facebook page. We need to bring him back to life. I need my own rubber chicken!
Here are the pictures of Runnin Wilds' adventures.

crosswalk-safety first!

Look-he is standing on his own!

We finished our last run with the chicken in hand! I honked him at participants as we got close to the exchange!

Rivalry Relay

The last weekend in August, I ran the Rivalry Relay. It was the first year for this day relay, which started at the University of Utah and ended near BYU. It was a six person team, with each person running 3 legs. It was a cozy relay compared to the Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay. My friend from WX put a team together which included Regena(my friend), her husband, two co-workers of hers, myself, and my brother Jay. We were team Runnin' Wild. Jimmy was our team volunteer. Here is Jimmy doing his volunteer duty-picking up trash @ the race start. He looks like he is having FUN!

Our team picture before we started. Darn reflective vest....

Look at our cute skirts!Yes-I ran my first leg with my wig on. It was fun and luckily only 3 miles and not to hot yet.

Rob & I in our wigs and our U's
Almost done with my run-See-Wig on!

My Bro Jay & Me

Creamies were at one exchange.
Yum.

Jay getting ready to run his monster leg.

3.3 Very Hard Miles with 1100 feet elevation gain.

Check out his pose & the view!
(oh and the short shorts! runners!)

He is an animal! But he did it and totally rocked it!

(He just got done.)
Go Nikki!

Nikki going down hill into Utah County. Again-cool view!

Here I am on my run. It was 1pm. Hot August afternoon! My teammates are soaking me with water. SOAKING ME! They were a great support & help. I chose to do my two legs back to back, legs 12 & 13 which totaled 8 miles. It was HOT HOT HOT. Again, my team really helped me out and I did okay. I was at a 14 minute mile pace at one time because I tried to be smart and take it easy. It would be better to take walk breaks, instead of end up in the hospital with hypothermia or heat stroke.

I sneaked off the trail at one point to do a potty break.
No one noticed.....it wasn't a bathroom I stopped at.

DONE!

Me talking to Regena about how hard those legs were! Again-it was HOT!

But always happy to flash my U.

(my skirt is still soaked at this point)

Local law enforcement-two cities had officers along the route. Only two.

Regena cooling off her husband during his last run.

And here is the team together at the end! Our team finished in middle-40 out of 81 teams. It was a great relay.

I would do it again next year. I would even put my own team together. The time of year made it hot, but we were prepared, so we did okay. You wouldn't want it during football season cause it would conflict with football games. Its not as intimidating and long as Ragnar. You could have more average runners (like myself) and complete it. It was just cozy-not too big. They were pretty organized for their first year. Shirts & logo's were cool. The race course could have been marked a little better. Otherwise, a fun race & I hope they do it again.

Thanks team Runnin' Wild!
